This week did not have too many important economic new releases but had plenty of Geopolitical News. The big stories on the geopolitical side were the increased tension between the US and Iran and the US and Europe coming to an understanding regarding tariffs, hopefully eluding a trade war with the EU. For economic releases, the first version of second quarter (Q2 GDP was released. The GDP reading was strong, the best reading in four years at 4.1% growth. The consumer spending aspect of the report was higher than expected at 4% which is important as that is a major driver of our economy. It was a volatile week for mortgage rates and as the week ended rates were slightly higher. As I have written before, the rate increases in July are not a shock as this was the month the Federal Reserve was going to take their next step down in purchases of mortgage-backed securities in the marketplace.
