According to Ellie Mae's most recent Origination Insight Report, the typical loan now takes 42 days to close which is one day longer as compared to last month, and the most days that lenders have needed to close on loans since January. Now, the data point's just an average some lenders close more quickly, some lenders take even more time. But as a borrower, you do keep some control on that timeline. You can speed up your closing with a little bit of prep. And, it's basic stuff, too. Be pre-approved to purchase before you start to shop. Have your W-2s and tax returns scanned and ready to upload to a lender. Have your down payment monies lined up and in an separate account. And… check your texts and email regularly. Your lender, your home insurer, the title company arranging for your signing everyone's going to need to you for something between now and closing and the faster you can get back, the faster you can close. It doesn't have to take that six weeks average time to close on a loan, if you don't want.
