Millennials are moving from renting into homeownership at a pace that can only be called historic, setting all sorts records and putting that Living In Their Parents' Basement meme to rest for good. The data is from the Vacanies and Homeownership report from the U.S. Census Bureau and it shows that. at the end of June, homeownership rates among people under the age of thirty-five jumped three-point-four percent and that is the biggest one-quarter gain of any age group into homeownership at any point in recorded history. Millennials just set a record. And they did it, in part, by being smart. By recognizing that there are lots of ways to buy a home and not all of them require twenty percent down. It's not a lack of income that holds buyers back, after all it's often the perception that they need a twenty percent down payment in order to get approved. Today's young buyers are getting learned. And they're turning to 3-percent down government-backed programs like HomeReady and HomePossible; to the 100 percent VA program; to the USDA program.
